The July desktop background image is here! This month’s desktop is of rushing water in Horseshoe Park at Rocky Mountain National Park. Horseshoe Park is the site of some consequence in July. On July 15, 1982 the Lawn Lake moraine broke sending 29 million gallons of water into the valley below, creating an epic alluvial fan , killing two park campers, and leaving the nearby town of Estes Park six feet under water. With the historic levels of snow that we have received this year, we all hope a travesty of this nature doesn’t repeat itself. The April desktop background image is finally here. In spring, the weather in Colorado is anything but predictable. Saturday set a record high with a temperature of 84 degrees – and it snowed on Sunday! I guess it’s a good thing I got out on Saturday and got a great picture of Longs Peak. Longs Peak is located about an hour north of Boulder, CO and at an incredible 14,259 feet tall, it is one of the fabled “fourteeners”. Located just outside of Estes Park, CO, RMNP is one of my favorite destinations in all of Colorado. This particular image includes Ypsilon Mountain (left) and Fairchild Mountain (right) – both of which are an amazing 13,400+ feet above sea level.
